New Poll: Sen. Chuck Schumer Is Far Out of Touch With New York Voters on Israel
A poll released Monday, June 8, by IMEU Policy Project, and conducted by Data for Progress, finds New York State voters, especially Democrats, aren’t being represented by their senators.
In April, the US Senate voted on resolutions to block President Trump’s delivery of 2,000-pound bombs and bulldozers to Israel. 40 Senators – all Democrats – voted in favor. 7 Democrats voted with Republicans to keep weapons flowing, including New York Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. The poll finds that 61% of New York State voters and 76% of Democrats support the resolution to block bombs, and 57% of voters overall including 71% of Democrats support the resolution to block bulldozers.
Schumer is also deeply unpopular with New York voters, with a net favorability of -15. In comparison, Sen. Bernie Sanders has a net favorability of +15, New York City Zohran Mamdani has a net favorability of +7, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a net favorability of +3.
MORE KEY FINDINGS:
A majority of New York State voters (51%) and vast majority of Democratic voters (70%) agree Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians. Sen. Schumer said earlier this year that one of his most important jobs as leader of the Senate Democratic caucus is to “fight for aid to Israel.”
Sen. Schumer publicly opposed President Barack Obama’s efforts to find a diplomatic resolution with Iran - a deal that President Trump ripped up in his first term before launching a war with Iran this year. 61% of New York voters say the current war with Iran benefits Israel more than the United States. Just 26% say the US benefits more.
