Conversation with Rep. Rashida Tlaib: 78 Years Since the Nakba | May 13, 2026
On Wednesday, May 13, IMEU Policy Project hosted a special virtual conversation with Rep. Rashida Tlaib to commemorate the Nakba in advance of her reintroduction of a resolution in Congress to end US complicity in Israel’s ongoing catastrophe against Palestinians.
Joining her for this conversation was Dr. Yousef Munayyer, Head of the Palestine/Israel Program and Senior Fellow, Arab Center Washington DC.
The Nakba, Arabic for "catastrophe," refers to Israel's ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their homeland in 1948. Between 1947-1949, between 750,000 and 1 million Palestinians—approximately 4 of out every 5 Palestinians—became refugees as they were expelled from their homes by Israel or fled in fear for their lives as Israel committed massacres. Every year, Palestinians and people of conscience around the world mark Nakba Day by honoring the families, villages, histories, and futures that Palestinians continue to fight to preserve.
